Biography
F. Emmanuel Bastien

F. Emmanuel Bastien is a photographer and videographer working between New York and Paris. For the last 20 years he has been shooting documentaries, commercials, fashion, and hard news for major channels such as the BBC, Reuters, AP, Globo, and Aljazeera.

Born in France, Emmanuel spent his childhood in remote parts of the world, witnessing political instability and poverty in India, Cambodia, and Mali, which shaped his focus on social issues and personal struggles from an early age. He became fascinated with photography in Cambodia in 1973 at the height of the war when many photographers came by his parents’ house to share their photos and their stories.

Today Emmanuel is spending more time exploring the visual boundaries photography can offer.

His latest series of photographs taken over the course of the past 3 years are a visual exploration of the juxtaposition of fragmented spaces within reflections.

Publications: 75 black and white images taken in Harlem, Mexico and the Mission District in San Francisco for the cookbook  “La Comida Del Barrio” by chef Aaron Sanchez.

Emmanuel received a BA in Film and Television from New York University and speaks English, French and Spanish.
